Learn, Write and Record with experienced Guitarist/Producer Jack Taylor

About

Hi, I’m Jack Taylor, a guitarist from Surbiton with nearly 20 years of experience. My main passions lie in playing blues, classic rock, and metal, but I’m always eager to explore new genres and musical styles.

Since 2011, I’ve been a guitarist in the metal band Bangover, touring across the country and releasing several albums and EPs. For our latest album, I took on the role of home recording and producing, which was an incredible learning experience that fueled my passion even more. This journey inspired me to share my knowledge and skills through teaching and creating great music.

All my services are tailored to your personal taste—I want you to learn and record the music you love, not just practice songs you’re indifferent about and repeat repetitve scales and notation. This approach made my own learning enjoyable and effective, and I believe it will do the same for you.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please reach out using the contact details at the bottom of the site.

Thanks for stopping by!
Jack

'Track in Ten' Course

Track in Ten is a 10-week, one hour per session course designed for complete beginners to learn the fundamentals of guitar—starting from the very basics and progressing all the way to writing and recording your first original song.

This course will be completely tailored to your music style, whatever that may be, and we can discuss this in our initial consultation.

Course Overview:

Weeks 1–6 – Learning to Play

Week 1: Guitar basics – posture, tuning, holding the pick
Week 2: Strumming and rhythm – timing, playing with a metronome
Week 3: Major & minor chords, reading guitar tabs, playing basic songs
Week 4: Keys and scales – intro to melody
Week 5: Song structure – explore new songs with more interesting chords
Week 6: Power chords & barre chords

Weeks 6–8 – Writing & Recording

Week 6: Begin creating your own song – structure and rhythm
Week 7: Continue writing – add a lead melody, intro, and solo
Week 8: Recording session (1 hour) – track your song

Weeks 9–10 – Buffer Weeks

These can be used to:

– Spend extra time on any area that needs attention (most likely continuation of the recording process)
– Add vocals, bass, or even drums to your track
– Finish or polish your recording

Each Week Includes:

– A PDF with course material and exercises
– Support via WhatsApp or video call if you need clarification

Note: To get the most from the course, you'll need to practice outside of our lessons. One hour a week won't be enough—you'll need to put in time between sessions. As a result, you'll need to own your own guitar.

Pricing & Details:

£25 per lesson (paid in cash/card before each session, or via bank transfer/PayPal)

£225 full course (10% discount when paid upfront for all 10 lessons)

I am happy to teach children, however it must be on the understanding that we may need more than the 10 weeks to complete the track.

Likewise, youll need to be realistic with expectations over the quality of your recording. After just 10 weeks, it wont be perfect!

Your finished track will be delivered in your preferred format, with all project assets included if requested.

Reviews

"Jack has been teaching guitar and ukulele to my kids (ages 7 and 10) for the past few months and is an excellent teacher with a broad musical knowledge. He is very comfortable teaching kids of this age and produces tailored lesson plans to build and expand on previous work. My wife who works as a trained cello teacher is very complimentary of Jack’s teaching and rapport he has built with the kids in a relatively short space of time."

"My ten year old has been having lessons with Jack for a few months and absolutely loves it. Jack is calm and patient and tailors the lessons to what will be most engaging. As a result, my son is really progressing and learning some great techniques. Highly recommended."

"I actually heard of Jack from a work friend. She said he was a great guitar tutor so I thought I'd give him a try. I'm glad I did, as he was a very friendly, patient and knowledgeable guitarist. He taught me a lot and I really got on well with him. A top bloke and an amazing tutor!"
